About Historic Stock

Historic Stock is a source of camera-ready, hi-resolution vintage photographs from the United States. We specialized in images from the late-1800s and the Turn of the Century.

All of the images are made from hi-resolution scans and have been extensively retouched and cleaned. (You can learn more below about the work we do to restore images.) We started as a Historic Photography Blog and due to high demand have begun selling stock images. We are still building our stock inventory, so if you don't see a photograph here that meets your needs, please search our other site at Shorpy.com and let us know what you need added to this collection. Why buy from Historic Stock

The photos you see here on Historic Stock are not like other vintage and historic photographs you may run across online. We have done all of the hard work to restore the images so they are immediately ready for use in your projects.

Each image is extracted from full-resolution scans. We know quality is important, so the work on each image can take several hours, depending on the amount of work that needs to be done to bring detail out of the shadows, suppress overexposed highlights, and remove blemishes caused by dust, scratches and mold. Color images require correction for color cast as well. The before-and-after composites below show the condition of some of these old glass negatives a century after they were exposed, and how they look after a day at the digital restoration spa.
